Pediatric Dental Center: Common Pediatric Dental Services

Pediatric Dental Center

Pediatric Dental Center | If you’ve only just begun taking your child to the dentist, or will be doing so soon, you may be curious about what types of dental services are provided for young children.

By taking your child to a pediatric dental center, you will be providing them with the latest dental services and technologies that are available in a professional and friendly environment so that their teeth and little smiles are protected at all times.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride helps to prevent cavities and tooth decay. As well as prevent an accumulation of plaque that can harden on the surfaces of teeth. Once plaque has hardened into tartar, it is only removable by a dental professional.

It only takes a few minutes for your child to receive a fluoride treatment. After this treatment, they should not be eating anything hard or crunchy. They should also avoid drinking hot beverages for two hours. This is so their teeth have enough time to fully absorb the applied fluoride.

The frequency that your child should undergo a fluoride treatment is based upon their current oral health and the recommendations of the pediatric dental center.

Pediatric Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are becoming increasingly popular as a way of protecting children’s teeth from damaging oral bacteria. A sealant is like putting up a protective shield over the back teeth that tend to be more vulnerable to tooth decay because they are harder to reach and clean.

Dental Sealants Fast Facts:

  • No drilling or anesthetic shots required
  • Fast treatment
  • Prevents up to 80% of cavities

The sealants themselves are a thin, resinous liquid that the dentist applies to the back molars. Think of pediatric sealants as an insurance policy against tooth decay. Which could lead to expensive and uncomfortable procedures down the road.

Dental Exams and Cleanings

A very important, but often overlooked, pediatric dental service is your basic dental exam and cleaning appointment. Prevention is particularly important for children because it helps them avoid uncomfortable treatments and ensures that they have a positive experience when they visit the pediatric dental center.

We will first provide a comprehensive dental exam that consists of a visual inspection of your child’s mouth, teeth and gums. If any x-rays are needed, they will be taken. On condition that any problems are noted, your child dentist will be called in for a closer inspection.

If any treatment is required, you can make an appointment at this time after going over a treatment plan with your pediatric dental center.
