What are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Tooth-colored fillings for kids are the same as ones for adults, just much smaller! Dr. Brys’ eye for detail and specialized training in treating developing smiles allows her to effortlessly place the filling in temporary as well as permanent teeth.
These restorations are made from a tooth-colored putty called composite resin, which has the ability to chemically fuse with the tooth’s natural enamel. This allows it to create a virtually impenetrable seal that keeps harmful oral bacteria from being able to cause even more damage to your child’s tooth.
The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

The first step of placing your child’s tooth-colored filling in Newton is clearing away any debris and sanitizing the tooth. We will then color-match the composite resin with the shade of their tooth, prepare the tooth by brushing an adhesive primer, and place the putty in the area where we cleared the decayed dental structure. Then, we will cure the resin with UV light, hardening it and allowing it to function as a natural extension of your child’s tooth. In many cases, tooth-colored fillings can last for between five and seven years with good oral hygiene.
The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings for Kids

There are a number of benefits that your child will be able to enjoy by receiving a tooth-colored filling instead of a traditional amalgam one, including:
- Better for those with metal allergies and sensitivities
- Less risk of sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages
- Longer lifespan of between five and seven years
- Ability to blend in with their natural tooth, drawing less attention
- Can typically be completed in a single appointment
